Sometimes it’s hard to know who’s a stakeholder and who’s not, whether they have a strong impact on your operations, and determine who’s part of an internal or external group.
Stakeholders are individuals and groups, representing investors, governing bodies, industry groups and other external organisations in the wider community with various degrees of influence on your organisation.
As stakeholder management is a critical component to support effective stakeholder consultation and collaboration, the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has developed a stakeholder identification and rating tool and supporting guidance to provide a transparent, consistent and repeatable methodology for stakeholder consultation and engagement.
The tool and user guide provide project managers with a consistent and accessible method to consider a range of stakeholders and will produce a map to place each stakeholder in a category, as well as develop effective engagement strategies.
