Beneath the Surface: OZ Minerals Case Study

 A modern mining company
OZ Minerals is an Australian leading copper mining company, with operations at Prominent Hill since 2009, and developing operations at the Carrapateena mine; set to be one of Australia’s largest copper-gold resources.
Their commitment to safety, capital discipline and values underpins everything they do. As they continue to adapt to the ever-changing environment, turning innovating ideas into action and fostering collaboration is what drives OZ Minerals to be Australia’s third largest copper producer and a global leader.
Mining forwards
That’s why we spoke to the systems administrator at OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill site, to discuss how they can improve and lead the way with their workforce and environmental management.
When asked about the software they were using to manage their workforce and environment, they outlined that they had individual spreadsheets/software in place for:
  • Flight and accommodation requirements
  • Risk and environmental management
  • Training requirements
  • Stakeholder communications
Yet keeping personnel records in each system up to date was a challenge with the multiple systems, and required a separate System Administrator for each.
Light at the end of the tunnel
To find solutions to manage their requirements and obligations, and step away from the spreadsheets, OZ Minerals went to market through a formal tender process to find a suitable candidate for a training solution, for which INX InTuition was selected. They have also tendered for other requirements such as travel, flights, roster and accommodation management for which INX InFlight was selected.
Soon after they were looking to replace their risk management, environmental reporting and health management systems, and picked our INX InControl and INX InControl Mobile solutions.
What they said…
“We continue to notice an improvement in the quality of event information being reported and the speed in which people are closing out events and actions. Having recently rolled out a Critical Risk Management project that allows anyone, regardless of job role or knowledge of the task of the work area, to use the INX InControl Mobile Application to do a field assessment of a Critical Risk task. The INX InControl Mobile Application provides configurable checklists that identify potential or actual issues and areas of improvement.”
