People of INX: Oscar Persichitti

Meet our teams and the people behind the software. This is the People of INX Software series.

We’ve made the rounds and spoke to our teams across our Perth, Brisbane, and Canadian offices to share with you what makes our people tick and why they do what they do.

Let’s meet Oscar.

1. What is your role, why did you join INX, and how long have you been here?

I have been an Account Manager at INX since October 2019. I have been described as having had a unique work-life experience. Having been in leadership positions within the Australian Army, WA Police and later running my own Training & Consulting business from inception, I have experienced the highs and lows of communicating with people from all walks of life, for good and bad reasons, resulting in what might be called, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

So, after being offered the position at INX, I jumped at the opportunity of managing an existing client portfolio of a growing, global company, with an array of industry sector clients, and the opportunity to learn something new, the ‘world’ of IT software.

2. What is a memorable customer/story you’d like to share?

Communicating and building rapport with others is a hit/miss proposition. In any given day, you can have a great outcome with a client, but still not walk away thinking you ‘connected’ with that person. There is, of course, plenty of reasons for this, but ultimately you can still ‘get the job done’ either way. What is most memorable and satisfying, is walking out of an engagement knowing you connected professionally with the other. It not only solidifies the trust/respect relationship with that person, but it makes you feel like you’re making a difference to that person’s world.

3. What interesting things have your job allowed you to do?

The most interesting aspect of this job for me is learning about the INX workforce software and how it interacts with business groups and processes within their everyday working environment.

4. What’s one piece of advice that has helped you in what you do today?

My key take-home point whether facilitating training or providing guidance to others was always the importance of being self-aware. Understanding that your current state influences the way you interact and behave towards others, means that remaining in a bad current state or mood will only reciprocate bad interactions with others. If you’re regularly having a bad day, it’s time to look at what you’re exhibiting to others, particularly nonverbally.

5. Your favourite inspirational quote:

My most memorable quote takes me back to my military ties. It is a quote about Loyalty and Leadership by (the then) General Colin Powell, United States Army. It goes:

“When we are debating an issue, loyalty means giving me your honest opinion, whether you think I like it or not. Disagreement at this stage stimulates me. But once a decision has been made the debate ends. From that point on loyalty means executing the decision as if it were your own.”

This is very relatable; it highlights the importance of true collaboration and the difficulty of leadership when you might not necessarily agree with the decision made. My only inclusion to this quote (given my history), is that the decision must be moral and lawful.
