Adobe Flash is Out, HTML5 is In. Are You Ready?

Adobe has recently announced that by January 2021, they will no longer support the Flash player plug-in. The reason for the shift was because Adobe felt that ‘HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly have continually matured over the years and serve as viable alternatives for Flash content’. Following this, Google and Microsoft also publicized that, by default, they will be disabling the plug-in in their browsers by the end of 2020.

The end-of-life for Flash doesn’t come as a surprise as users have been steadily moving towards the HTML5 format because it has better cross-browser support, it’s mobile-friendly, has better storage, and is more interactive and engaging.

So, what does this mean for you?

Any content that you are using for your company, that has a Flash player component, will be ineffective by the end of the year. This means that all tutorials, inductions, or courses you have that train or inform employees will become obsolete.

The impact this could have on your company would be significant in employee training and compliance. If employees cannot access the content they need to commence and complete their jobs properly, it would lead to a decrease in productivity and efficiency levels. This can further result in role gaps and miscommunication. It’s a good idea to start thinking about the processes involved in converting your old content before it’s too late.

But don't worry, we can help!

Our Learning Solutions team has the expertise to convert your content from Flash to the approved HTML5 format. Let our team manage the project and handle all your content conversion needs. All we need from you are the source files for the course, or if you don't have access to them anymore, we can use the SCORM files to re-create them for you. This may also be a good time to look at updating all your course content to determine its relevancy in the current context.

The Learning Solutions team is made up of experienced eLearning developers who work tirelessly to deliver aesthetically-pleasing and engaging training content to our clients. They work with the Articulate suite of products to create inductions, courses, training modules, and procedures that can be used company-wide across multiple different industries.
