Part 3 – EHS Incident Management: Monitoring Environmental Compliance

So far, we have explored how you can leverage the past to influence the future, by moving away from the fixation on measuring and tracking historical data with little emphasis on translating data insights into actions for preparation of the future.

We also dived into what compliance is and how can you achieve performance excellence with sound EHS management techniques and platforms, assessing the validity of compliance that is at times underestimated or overlooked when performance excellence is concerned.

Let’s now focus on what monitoring environmental compliance entails and the range of monitoring duties organisations have to perform, and the role of technology in streamlining these tasks and requirements.

Engaging your environment

Environmental standards are put in place to oversee the environmental impacts of an organisation’s operations. These commonly include but are not limited to:

  • Air Quality
  • Water Quality
  • Flora and Fauna
  • Waste Management
  • Noise
  • Vibration
  • Rehabilitation

Organisations have a range of different monitoring tasks to perform in order to comply with legislation and/or be able to make informed operational decisions. The number of samples, sampling frequency, timing and analysis requirements will differ between industries, countries, states and provinces, and the project.
