“Since implementing INX we have seen far greater participation to ensure accountability around maintaining compliance and reducing risk across the business.”

Novus Holdings is one of the largest commercial printing and manufacturing
operations in South Africa. With its headquarters in Cape Town and a national
footprint, the Group creates value for its stakeholders by converting raw materials
and applying print and manufacturing techniques to an increasingly diversified range
of paper-based utility products.

The JSE-listed operation services the African continent with the print production
of short to long run magazines, retail inserts, catalogues, books, newspapers,
educational materials, commercial work as well as digital and securitised printing;
packaging production that includes wet glue labels, self-adhesive labels and flexible
plastic packaging; and tissue production in the form of jumbo wadding. Novus
Holdings is committed to driving sustainable socio-economic development in the
communities in which it operates and preserving natural resources through the
implementation of environmentally responsible practices.

We spoke to Novus Holdings about their need for a workforce management solution to improve their compliance, reduce their risk and increase their productivity.

What were you previously using to manage safety compliance and what were the limitations with this?
Previously, we relied more on manual processing, primarily through paper-based systems and Excel spreadsheets. Checklists were conducted in the same manner, resulting in outdated templates and forms being used. We were performing continuous site audits, which were time-consuming and site-specific, meaning information could not be measured or managed in a standardised manner.

What criteria were set when purchasing a new solution?
Our key requirement was a standardised and centralised solution, which would provide access across the entire Group. We were looking for greater visibility, understanding and control over what was happening, not just at one site or within one department but across everything.

What have been some notable changes since implementing INX?
Since implementing the INX we have company-wide access from any point in the organisation and the built-in security ensures that people only see the information that is relevant to them. One of the biggest advantages has been the ease-of-use and user-friendly interface, which enabled quick adoption across the company.

Incident investigations are done more thoroughly and analysis of data is used to identify areas of concern and to create awareness easier than before. The automated reminders enable us to track actions, thereby ensuring we remain compliant, improve safety and reduce our risks.

INX allows us to collect the required information from our employees and contractors and provide the high-level visibility that management requires. Where previously the status on incidents and events was driven by our SHERQ team, management are now more informed and involved and everyone understands their responsibilities with regards to compliance.

How would you describe the implementation?
This was a smooth and quick implementation, all our requirements were not only met but far exceeded. Whenever we required assistance INX were just a phone call away and everything was resolved immediately.

Why do you recommend INX?
I have already recommended INX to several contacts working in SHERQ for the compliance and efficiency benefits it has delivered. I strongly recommend INX.

The Solution

Novus Holdings are using INX InControl, a cloud solution supported by a user-friendly mobile application used to capture, report and manage OHSE incidents, audits, events and risks and implement controls and corrective actions to reduce risk and ensure compliance.
